An Orientation on Drinking

The first post of this blog relates to what goes on before the classes even start. Here at Sloan, most students in the class arrive two weeks or more before classes start for the optional pre-term (accounting, math, economics review) and required orientation. Recognize that these are two weeks without homework and being immersed in the worlds of 300 other strangers, and the result is a lot of get togethers, pick up games of various sports, and, of course, drinking. One would think posterity would dictate a dedicated pre-term class to drinking and building up tolerances for successful networking (yes, "networking") for the next two years, but, alas, this is left to the students in the class themselves to organize. We have done fine, as Sloan has regular drinking nights on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. In fact, I am half drunk as I write this, fresh off a fun night of bonding with new classmates at the Beacon Hill Pub in Boston. I only hope good management and leadership is not something learned in a state dependent environment.
